Proud Galleriess have been told by the popo to apply for a lap-dancing licence or face having their Burlesque show banned. Whether under 18's should be allowed to the show is also being brought into question. Alex Proud of Proud Galleries commented on the Councils decision "If you run a public entertainment venue or a nightclub or theatre you just have to live in a very absurd Kafkaesque world."

Soooo let me get this straight, they'll quite happily let Ann Summers hold lil parties and show me how to use my dildo effectively however something that has been culturally relevant since the 17th Century in Europe not to mention that they made Moulin Rouge out of it... is getting banned!?

Burlesque shows have been going on since 1830's and were usually performed to Operatic style music just interpreted in a much more humerous risque fashion- a sexy carry on to good music. The yanks adapted it by adding the strip tease segments and used them in shows which were popular for people during the depression... we're heading into the recession surely we're not going to take away an institution that was built up to celebrate the curvy benita apple bom form, no one wants to go home and look at thier bank statements... we want back off and titties, gyrating to a backdrop of alternative bougie upper class musical shit. Frugality and decorated pig flu masks being everyones portion at the moment it's nice to be able to go somewhere for complete and utter escapism. It's the reason couture fashion shows are still popular, bejeweled merkins, diamond encrusted nipple covers, swarovski corsets this is what we want!
dita von teese

Dita Von Teese the figure head for burlesques rise in fame and current cultural relevance has said"It's not unusual for burlesque to be regulated because it always has been and the stars of burlesque from the past had to deal with it. The challenges of getting around the laws and the risqué element were always a part of what made burlesque exciting." She has encouraged the bending of rules in keeping with the burlesque history Burlesque which has generally become a far more popularised form of entertainment and can be credited to Dita Von Teese and music by people like The Dresdon Dolls cannot be allowed to be sanctioned. VIVE LA BURLSQUE.

The Dresdon Dolls
