Nope, it's not those insanely-priced Jazz Mutant ones that Daft Punk use....It's even more crazier:
Companies such as Akai, Korg & M-Audio spend millions of research and development to come up with the perfect MIDI controlle. This chap by the name of DJ Rasteri, armed with an open source code, a spare crossfader and a cardboard box(!), puts one together for peanuts.
When you look at the workings, it's the simplest of principles - the platter with markings spins and the position is tracked and fed to software via MIDI which gives the location and speed for the sample to be played at. The demo shown is actually Traktor being controlled via MIDI, however Rasteri thinks it's possible to make an all in one 'ScratchMan' (as it's been dubbed).
MIDI controllers made with cardboard & gaffer tape? Now that's some next level Blue Peter-type shit....
More pics here too.
