I've been meaning to start photo blogging some of my adventures on the digital wheels of steel for a while now, so I thought I might as well take the plunge, snap some pics, and post up some annecdotes for you to read when you're not busy downloading music for free, or looking at porn....
Anyhow, I had to fit in two gigs last night, which were about 100 miles apart.
So I put on my Air Max 1's....
....packed my bag....
....and headed off to the Arkaic & Tleevz launch party at The Talk in Norwich. For those who don't know, Arkizzy was a regular at the Jump Off MC battles, and did pretty well at repping the UK in the World Rap Championships. Also on the bill were Sway, Tinie Tempah & Ghetto.
Now this event had an age limit of 15 and over and ran from 7.30pm to 1am. My set was from 8-9pm, as I had to be in Southend later that night. It was kind of like a cross between a School Disco and a Grime night - All-over print hoodies everywhere, all divided into groups of boys & girls, just staring at each other. And not dancing:
Nevertheless, I did my thing, got my cash and bounced. I did get a call later today from Arkaic saying that the rest of the night was a success - Wish I could've stuck around to see the PAs, but I had to drive to Southend in less than 2 hours to be on the decks at 11pm. Sounds easy, right? Not when a good 40 miles is made up of 40 & 50 mph limits on a single lane A road....
After some super (but safe!) Cable driving I only got to Talk Nightclub (yes, two venues called Talk in the same night. Weird, eh?) about 5 mins late. They were having a foam party, which seemed cool. But here's the catch....They had damn near 2000 litres of the stuff to ejaculate on 1,000 drunk Essex girls/guys, with a giant fan that resembles a green mechanical penis.
Before the foam:
After:
Eat your heart out Ron Jeremy....
What I like about this venue, is that even though it's an 'Urban' night, and apart from the same shit that you have to play each week, such as Flo Rida, Soulja Boy & Sean Paul....
....I can actually get away with doing something different - whether it's throwing in 80's jams like "Beat It" over garage joints like "138 Trek", spinning the occasional B'More or Blog House track, or playing Dubstep. I was suprised that the following Rusko joint went down well:
"2 N A Q" is just pure filth. Following it up with "Lollipop" = Game Over. I don't think Southend was ready....
Oh - they also had a PA from Paleface & Kyla too, which wasn't bad....However, the crowd seemed more interested in flinging foam at each other:
Some other random crowd shots:
DJ Rugged - One of the other residents.
I didn't stay for too long, as driving 200 miles in total and doing two gigs on 4 hours' sleep from the night before (UK DMC Finals) took it's toll....But all in all, a pretty good Friday night....
Now I'm off to play "Crank Dat" & "Low" somewhere else. Joy!
